Four months ago Commissioner Shenise Turner Sloss, Jacob Davis and I signed a pledge vowing to run a clean campaign focused on the issues. We asked our opponents to do the same. They failed to do so, and now we know why.

Mailboxes have been filled with negative campaign advertisements.

Honestly, I’m sad. Dayton is better than this. We face real problems that require bold leadership, clear vision and concrete solutions.

Voters deserve candidates who will focus on issues, work to build up the community. Campaign with honesty and integrity.

My grandfather had a saying, a half truth is a full lie. The negative advertisements are just that - half truths and full lies.

I have a track record for campaigning honestly and with integrity. In 2018, Ambassador Tony Hall commended me and Rev. Daryl Ward for the exemplary way we campaigned - focused on issues and with respect for one another.

In three out of the five campaign where my name has been on the ballot - there have been negative mailers sent by my opponents. Jeff Mims is the only candidate who was also been a candidate in those three races.  The actions were so egregious in 2021 that the Ohio and Montgomery County Democratic Parties issued apologies. The Ohio Young Black Democrats condemned the mailers.

It is time for Jeff Mims to apologize. A week ago I asked my commission opponents to denounce these negative advertisements. They have remained silent.
