Darryl Fairchild, Jacob Davis, and Shenise Turner-Sloss launch campaigns focused on community needs and visions for Dayton’s future.

DAYTON, OH — In a united show of commitment to integrity, respect, and fairness in public service, Shenise Turner-Sloss, candidate for Mayor of Dayton, joined Dayton City Commissioner Darryl Fairchild and Dayton City Commission candidate Jacob Davis today to officially sign a “Clean Campaign Pledge.”

The pledge signifies each candidate’s dedication to maintaining a positive, issue-focused campaign that steers clear of personal attacks, misleading statements, and divisive rhetoric.

By taking this public stand, the candidates aim to set a higher standard for political discourse in Dayton and reaffirm their shared commitment to serving the community with honesty and accountability.

Commissioner Darryl Fairchild, who has long advocated for transparency and ethics in government, added: “Dayton is stronger when our politics reflect our community values: respect, decency, and fairness. This pledge is a promise to lead by example.”

Jacob Davis, candidate for Dayton City Commission, stated, “I believe campaigns should be about ideas, solutions, and vision. This pledge is a step toward restoring trust in local government by modeling the kind of leadership our residents deserve.”

“Our community deserves leaders who will focus on the issues, not personal attacks,” said Shenise Turner-Sloss, candidate for Mayor. “Dayton faces real challenges and real opportunities — and our campaigns should reflect the values of the people we seek to serve.”

The “Clean Campaign Pledge” includes commitments to:

  • Conduct campaigns focused on issues and qualifications.
  • Avoid personal attacks and inflammatory language.
  • Refrain from spreading false or misleading information.
  • Hold supporters and campaign staff to the same high standards.

The three candidates encourage Mayor Mims, and others running for office in Dayton to join them in signing the pledge and committing to a campaign season centered on integrity and constructive dialogue.

In October 2021, both the Montgomery County Democratic Party and the Ohio Democratic Party issued apologies for approving and distributing attack ads targeting fellow Democrats, Dayton City Commission candidates Shenise Turner-Sloss and Darryl Fairchild. The fallout prompted Executive Director Kurt Hatcher to resign, stating that the mailers were approved over his objections by then Party Chairman Mark Owens and an Ohio Democratic Party staffer.
