I've advocated for a strategic housing plan from Day 1 of being a commissioner! It is key to making our neighborhoods vital. We are finally moving toward adopting one! You can learn more about the proposed plan at 5 community meetings.
5 Things I Want in Our Plan
1) Tools to make unproductive properties productive - including civil penalties, receivership, and a vacant properties ordinance with fees
2) Tools to create permanent affordable housing
3) Provision to insure all people can live in all neighborhoods - inclusionary housing ordinance
4) Increased enforcement of housing and commercial building codes
5) Housing Trust Fund to empower home ownership and to assist long-time residents keep their homes safe.

Springfield is a Role Model
We have a local role model - Springfield has recently adopted a Strategic Plan for Housing. It is a great example and we should measure ours to it.
They have 4 goals -
1) protect vulnerable residents
2) promote and enhance existing neighborhoods
3) produce affordably priced housing
4) lower barriers to development and redevelopment
