Spirit of Independence

Happy Fourth of July! May your day be meaningful.

Democracies are rare, fragile and short-lived. They are precious and while we advocate for our rights, we must also be committed to our responsibility to be good stewards of democracy so that we secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity.

This responsibility is fueled by the spirit of independence and animates my life and service as an elected official. It guides decisions that secure democracy and protects this experiment in self-governance.

I believe in this spirit.
